Audience Questions

How did the content change? How does it improve?

I elaborated more on the  Powerpoint part of my paper. This helps the audience get a better picture of what the Powerpoint will look like.

How did the form change?

I had to rearrange certain parts so that it flowed better. Now I have a more visually inducing section of my paper

PowerPoints are meant to inform people on what a researcher has done. They are usually composed of slides with few words. They also usually use graphs and charts to make it easier for people to understand.

“PowerPoint conference presentations can have two main purposes, either to inform people about what is new or exciting in the field or to inform people about some research they have done” (Riggs). Both presentations still have a similar makeup. Usually the first slides are to introduce the speaker and build their credibility. The following slides are used to discuss whatever the presentation is about and the last slides are a conclusion and reference slides. The slides themselves contain about 3-4 bullet points with each bullet point only containing a few words. The bullet points are mainly used to help the presenter remember where he is in the presentation and for the audience to get the main points of the presentation across. “They try to use the least amount of words possible so that the audience is not just reading the presentation straight from the slide” (Wright). Also, the use of graphs and charts is extremely common as a way to better present the data collected.

Audience Questions:

How did the content change? How is this more effective?

I added more quotes to from my interview. This build my credibility.

How did the form change?

Now I have something to elaborate on in the following sentences.

Also, most of the time research papers have multiple authors. This plays a big role in building the credibility of an author. The name that appears first usually is the one that did the most work and was most involved in the experiment. The names following are people that pitched in data or helped fund the research. The more times a researcher appears first, the more credible is word is in that field. Furthermore, when a researcher has established himself he starts to allow the people under him to put their names first so that they may build their credibility. As their name appears more, journals start asking them to write for them which further improves credibility.

“A researcher also establishes his credibility by the type of journals he is published in. Premiering in well known journals gives the author more recognition” (Wright). However, his research must go through the editorial board of that journal (the board is usually made up of top researchers in the field) before it is published. A researcher is more likely to get invited to conferences or write book chapters if his research appears in a top journal in his field.
